About Douglas Barrels
Douglas Barrels, founded by G.R. Douglas after World War II, has firmly planted its roots in the heart of West Virginia for over seventy-five years. With a dedicated commitment to honoring tradition, Douglas Barrels’ equipment operators still use vintage Pratt and Whitney machines to bore through stainless or chrome moly steel. Not only that but the unique push button method of rifling the barrels helps Douglas achieve the ultra-rifled precision they’ve been known for since its inception.
Now, under a new ownership team, Douglas Barrels has its sights firmly set on continuing to be the premier custom gun barrel manufacturer selected by shooting professionals, hunters, and firearm experts across the globe.
Founding of Douglas Barrels
Douglas Barrels was founded in 1948 by G.R. Douglas after he spent several years pursuing gunsmithing as a hobby. The company eventually switched focus to fabricating premium ultra-rifled custom gun barrels in 1954 and remained committed to that specialized field ever since.
Innovative Approach
Douglas Barrels utilizes a unique “push-button” approach to gun barrel manufacturing & uses hydraulic force to press a handmade carbide button through the perfectly drilled barrel. This method is non-subtractive and instead displaces the metal to create cleaner rifling and twist than other subtractive cut-rifling practices.
Documented Success
From small-caliber shooting contests to long-range professional marksmen events & the US Military, Douglas Barrels has time & time again been the barrel experts trust to deliver the results they require. Our facility showcases countless plaques, trophies, and awards documenting our unrivaled success through the years.
Experimental Advancement
Although still classified, Douglas Barrels can lay claim as the manufacturer of a gun barrel that has been on the lunar surface during the Apollo missions. Douglas Barrels has also been called upon numerous times by the United States Military to improve the accuracy and performance of long-range rifles.
Tried & True Manufacturing
Our unique manufacturing process is often replicated but never duplicated. By following the same push-button rifling process G.R. Douglas pioneered in the beginning, we are still offering customers air gauged tested premium ultra-rifled gun barrels at competitive prices and, more importantly, industry-best lead times.
Expansion & Evolution
Our Cross Lanes, WV facility has constantly expanded to provide additional space for new equipment, increased inventory, and personnel. We are currently making considerable investments in our technology and resources to meet increased demand for our premium barrels.
Our History
Founded in 1948 by G.R. Douglas, the headquarters for Douglas Barrels has not moved from its original location in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. This historic facility has produced hundreds of thousands of gun barrels in the seventy-plus years since its founding. Our premium ultra-rifled barrels have produced results at various shooting competition levels, been used by the U.S. Army Advanced Marksmanship Unit, and even made a trip to the lunar surface. Douglas Barrels started manufacturing ultra-rifled gun barrels to offer a level of precision unrivaled by competing businesses. That message still holds today with the unique carbide push-button rifling technique and air gauged testing that meets the ultra-rifled precision standards. Original company president A.L. “Arlie” Gardner famously said,
“If you miss the target, it will not be the fault of a Douglas barrel.”
