Custom Gun Barrels

Since 1948, Douglas Barrels’ premium ultra-rifled gun barrels have been synonymous with precision, accuracy, and dependable performance. Each gun barrel starts with high-quality stainless steel or chrome moly and is heat-treated to improve durability to withstand high-volume shooting and minimize variance over the lifetime of the barrel. Using our unique carbide push-button method to create the specified rifling, customers find that a premium Douglas Barrels’ barrel provides shooters with unmatched levels of accuracy. All of our barrels are made in America and are manufactured from start to finish in our original West Virginia facility.

Why Douglas Barrels Inc.

Unmatched Precision, Consistency, and Durability

Douglas Barrels carry the ultra-rifled designation that represents the immense precision of the rifle bore dimensions. Backed by over seven decades of first-place finishes and trophy hunts our gun barrels enhance the accuracy, precision, and reliability of firearms for long-range marksmen, professional shooters, avid hunters, and members of the US Armed Forces.

Over 75 Years of Experience

Douglas Barrels has handcrafted ultra-rifled barrels and supplied countless professional shooters, avid hunters, and military divisions for over 75 years. Our experienced machinists understand the unique calibers available in the market and will recommend calculated specifications to address the improvements desired by our customers.

No Shortcuts

We still follow the same manufacturing process as founder G.R. Douglas laid out with each barrel made by detailed craftsmen. This process has been further enhanced with new modern CNC machines, lathes, and supplemental manufacturing equipment to bridge the gap between age-old craftsmanship and modernized production.

Carbide Push-button Rifling

Rather than use subtractive machining techniques, we rely on our in-house fabricated precision carbide buttons to create incredibly accurate bore dimensions and rifling within the gun barrel. This manufacturing method creates the most uniform and precise rifling available in the industry.

Barrel Stability

Douglas Barrels does not apply any supplementary straightening methods to our barrels. We prefer to maintain our drilling and reaming tolerances as tight as possible to achieve the straightest bores possible. With over seventy-five years of experience, we’ve yet to find a better method to ensure a stable barrel during firing.

Premium Quality Inspection

All barrels are inspected by ultraviolet Magnaflux methods to ensure no defects are present that may impact barrel quality or performance. As not all defects are readily visible to the naked eye, Magnaflux testing indicates any problem areas in the barrel that may prevent our machinists from achieving air gauged quality during the manufacturing process.

air gauged Testing

Air gauged testing is an innovative way of measuring the bore caliber to measurements to the ten-thousandth of an inch. The air gauge test measures the displaced air within the barrel against the desired caliber size to ensure uniform diameters or possible inconsistencies along the complete length. All air gauged barrels must test within .0001” of the desired diameter to attain the ultra-rifled designation.

Basic Barrel Blank

A Douglas BASIC Barrel Blank is a rifled bar of steel with a rough lathed-turned finish that is cylindrical in shape and has been stress relieved. Our BASIC Barrels are available in lengths of 25.5”, 27.5”, 29.5”, and 31.5” (some calibers can be made in lengths of 35.5”). The BASIC barrel will have a slight variance in diameter but will always finish with at least a 1.250” OD. The Douglas BASIC Barrel is an ideal choice for gunsmiths wanting to contour their own barrels.

Contoured Barrel Blank

A Douglas Contoured Barrel Blank is machine finished on our CNC lathe to the customers’ specifications. Our Contoured barrel arrives approximately 1.5” longer than the chart dimensions to allow customers to thread and crown the barrel themselves. All Contoured barrels are polished to a 180-grit belt finish. The Douglas Contoured Barrel is intended for customers who wish to perform the final centering and shape of their barrel.

Finished, Turned and Chambered

A Douglas Finished, Turned and Chambered barrel will be contoured, threaded, chambered and crowned to the customers’ specifications. Our machinists will take a finished Douglas barrel and cut in the proper threading for the specified rifle action, chamber for the specific cartridge, and crown the barrel. The chamber in this barrel is finished to the state that a finish reamer is not required. All customers purchasing this variant should be aware that you will need to make a slight cut on the breech with a lathe and have an appropriate method to gauge headspace. DO NOT FIRE this specific barrel without making the required adjustments. We include a set of detailed instructions with each order that outlines this process. Please contact Douglas Barrels for an additional set of instructions if you misplace the included documentation. Requires fitting by gunsmith.

Rebarreling

When Rebarreling with Douglas, we do all the work. We approach each rebarreling project the same way we do our custom ultra-rifled barrels. Starting with our premium quality barrel blanks bored to exacting specifications, we work diligently to match the specifications outlined in your order or replicate the original barrel should you choose to provide it. Many customers send us their action and we then rebarrel to their rifle’s original specifications. Once we are finished, the barreled action as well as their original barrel (if so desired) will be returned to the customer. The Douglas Rebarrel can be immediately put in the original stock and it’s ready to go. Fit to your action by Douglas.
